ANDY CLARKE ——————— This man oozes folk music ! The word “ stalwart” can be thrown around lazily, but Andy is a passionate performer/organiser who can claim to be a true cornerstone of the west-country folk scene . He helps hold the popular Totnes Folk Club together in south Devon and has performed all over the country, but deserves to perform to a much wider audience. He sings predominantly traditional songs, inspired by the likes of Martin Carthy, Nic Jones,Chris Foster and Pete Coe and is an accomplished guitarist, particularly in his favoured “ dropped D “ tuning. In the last couple of years, after obtaining a magnificent instrument from Dublin luthier Joe Foley , he has made huge leaps in his inventive playing of the bouzouki in a percussive, rhythmic style. He’s performed with the likes of Jackie Oates and Steve Turner , hurdy gurdy and cittern maestro Steve Tyler. and the Devon- based Mooncoin Ceilidh Band. There are many UK “ folkies” out there who have yet to hear him. He’s got the right, relaxed stage banter too, and a a fund of knowledge about sources such as Baring-Gould.

Andy is an excellent singer and a superb musician. His bouzouki playing, in particular is fantastic.'

I’ve always really enjoyed Andy’s music and admired his playing. He’s long been a pioneer in marrying together the best bits of traditional English music with Irish bouzouki playing. Always worth listening to!

George Sansome ( Granny's Attic)

An excellent singer and instrumentalist who performs with the skill and taste of a master craftsman.
Pete Coe

A great evening's music. Love the instruments, they have a super ring to them, and your arrangements allow them to make the most of the lyrics, very rare!
Bob Kenwood - Tonbridge FC

"Andy's great - not only is he a passionate interpreter of traditional song (especially from his native South West) and one of the best instrumentalists I know, but he really knows how to engage with and entertain an audience. He stood in for me once when I was unavoidably late for a (sold out) show, and I had the very devil of a job trying to win back the audience! "

Tom Bliss

“Andy is a valued regular at Priddy with wide ranging talents and a huge smile! As well as performing Andy is one of the MC’s for the main stage. He also runs workshops over the weekend and is exceptional in all these roles. Pete Coe calls him “A master craftsman” we call him lovely.
Rachel Clarke (No relation) Priddy Festival.

“Great sense of rhythm”
Nic Jones.

"Andy Clarke's approach to folk music easily invests that tired word 'passion' with new vitality. His playing is deft and precise, his vocals on such trad.material as the 'Hostess' Daughter', ooze authority. Well worth checking out, - believe it so."
Clive Pownceby
Bothy Folksong Club, Southport.

“As well as being a great MC Andy is a fine performer in his own right”
James Fagan

"Some of the best arrangements of traditional material you'll ever here!"
Terry Parsons, Newport Folk Club
